the weddings begin

the weddings begin

Wedding season is upon us. Ring the bells and break out the dresses. No matter your age, it’s impossible not to get excited at the idea of a wedding. True love, beautiful floral agreements and lots of yummy food are a few good reasons.

Around this time of the year I get a lot of questions about wedding jewelry. What to wear as a guest and also what to gift bridesmaids. I have done a blog about my favorite pieces for bridesmaids so this time around I’m going to talk about wedding guest jewelry.

It’s important to feel our best while not going too over-the-top. I have the perfect combinations for classic yet statement making style. Check out the below pieces that will make sure to give you that understated glamorous feel.

Trends That Never Die

Trends That Never Die

Fashion month is wrapping up and I love to watch and observe not just for motivation (because there's tons) but for style trends. Accessories are a huge part of any runway and every season I pay close attention to see what’s happening in the world around me.

I can’t believe it, but for yet another season we're seeing the statement earring going strong. Of course there're some other jewelry trends happening but the trend that's refusing to die is the statement earring. There are some variations on this trend of course and I want to talk about that.

I am really loving the mix-n-match trend. That’s using two different earrings to make one pair but with a cohesive element. There are a few ways to make this work if it sounds crazy to you.

You have to find a common element, like metal, color or style. Something that’s really working lately is two different sizes, using the idea of disproportionate scale. Example, a stud with a longer chandelier earring.

Of course I've thought of a lot of cool ways to do this with my own pieces so check out the ideas I have put together for you here. These are my favorite combos. If you have created some of your own, let me know!

Spring Rewind

Spring Rewind

Can you believe it’s March?! Crazy how fast this year has been moving. I had to take a minute to sit back and revisit the year’s goals/dreams. I make sure to do that at least every quarter but sometimes it’s nice to do it at the beginning of a month, because there’s a real good energy around the first of the month.

The areas I love to look over and make sure I’m still wanting to accomplish the goal I set in the beginning of the year are typically: mind/body, home/family and work.

I know it’s hard sometimes because life in general is so overwhelming and looking at what you’re not doing is a little deflating, but I think coming to terms with what you can actually accomplish is quite liberating. When you’re super honest about the goals you made, you can actually start making them happen.

My favorite way to do this little ritual is to make it as fun as possible. I always set aside a few hours where I know I won’t be bothered or stressed by outside elements. I have my favorite snack and drink with me, maybe light a candle, and sit down in my favorite space in the house.

While it may sound silly, setting up your environment is really important for creative and mental work. It sets the tone and makes it easier to handle the task at hand. I have included some of my favorite motivational quotes that help me when I feel the need for a little pick-me-up.

I hope you enjoy and get closer to everything you want.

Clean-Up Time

Clean-Up Time

In past blogs, I’ve written about how plastic consumption is effecting our world, I talked about the things we can fix and the mistakes we’re making. This week I wanted to shine some light on some of the awesome work that is being done in this world to clean-up the huge plastic footprint we’ve been leaving.

This past week there was some fantastic news related to our pollution problems. The nonprofit organization, The Ocean Cleanup is focused on developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.

The organization utilizes the ocean currents to the ultimate advantage. They are estimating that the passive drifting systems are estimated to clean up half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years.

The passive system is comprised of a floater with a solid screen underneath, concentrating the debris and leading it to a collection system. It is slowed down by a drift anchor and suspended at 600 meters, making it move slower than the plastic and easy to catch it.

On February 13th, The Ocean Cleanup and the City of Alameda announced they have signed a lease for a portion of the former navel air station. The assembly will begin next month. This is so exciting, and I will keep you updated.

I love hearing how we can make a difference even when it feels impossible. and I wanted to share.

Love at First Sight

Love at First Sight

It’s February, and you know what that means…love is in the air. Even if you don’t really care for Valentine’s Day there is something about February that feels fun and light. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s the shortest month or maybe it’s because we are finally over the New Year excitement, but there seems to be a weight that has been lifted.

I know I am feeling attracted to all things sweet and rose-colored. As I was having one of my inspiration sessions I found myself creating a little mood board and wanted to share to the love.

It can be a hard time of the year depending on where you are in your life, but as cliche as is it, it’s important to know you are loved. Maybe you can’t feel it right now, but I can promise you that there are people you touch everyday who are grateful to have you apart of their lives.

We get so caught up in the schedules of everyday life that we forget one of the main reasons we are here on this earth is to love and be loved. Sending you a big hug.

The Classic Hits (A Gift Guide)

The Classic Hits (A Gift Guide)

Yes, yes I know this time of year we are hit with tons of “gift guides” and lots of ideas of how to buy the perfect gift. It feels as if everywhere we look we’re being told to buy buy buy.

I love giving gifts but I hate the stress and pushy marketing. I want to share with you a gift guide of sorts that also doubles as the greatest hits from every collection. This way you can see what pieces in the collections (year after year) have always been the perfect gifts. No pressure, just suggestions based on what has always worked in the past.

I think the holidays are a great time to give people timeless pieces, the tried and true. The pieces that build collections and fill holes in any style genre. When I talk about classics I just don’t mean classic as a style but the classic pieces that are at the base of every style.

Check out the guide below, it’s broken up by category and includes only the best pieces that have always been top sellers and never go out of style.

What you GIVE is what you GET

What you GIVE is what you GET

Yes, it’s that time of the year, the time where we get caught up in family celebrations, friends, good food, drinks, and lots of cheer. But it’s also that time of year where it’s very easy to get wrapped up (no pun intended) in the stress and busy-ness of it all.

I love that Thanksgiving is right before Christmas and Hanukkah because it’s the perfect mental prep for the more stressful holidays. Unfortunately, the holidays tend to focus a lot on gift giving and spreading ourselves too thin, so Thanksgiving is a time to just be together enjoying each others company and appreciating everything we have.

I also love that it’s centered around a meal made of delicious food. I try really hard to make this meal full of yummy food that nourishes our bodies. Food has brought people together for years and there is something about making food and sharing it with the people you love that feels good deep down in your soul.

I also make the day about honoring the people in my life. Telling family and friends how much they truly mean to me and appreciating them is my intention during the day and it feels fantastic. I find that the more love I give the more love I feel.

I hope your Thanksgiving holiday is full of love and gratitude, I’m sending you some as well.

Fall…are you there?

Fall…are you there?

It’s October! Can you believe it?! Fall has arrived for most of the country, here in Florida we are still feeling the heat so I have decided to do a little blog this week to jumpstart Fall.

Fall and Spring have these magical powers about them, it’s the one time that change feels so good.

Pumpkin everything, leaves changing, apple picking, cosy sweaters, hot cocoa, good books, family dinners, are just a few of what I love about this time of year.

I love anything that feels clean, modern with a hint of traditional. Fusing my love for authentic artisanal details with a minimalist undertone.

Share with me your favorite Fall traditions, I would love some new ideas.

Straw-Less

Straw-Less

This week Starbucks announced a plan to stop using plastic straws as of 2020 in all of their locations. This has the potential of eliminating more than one billion plastic straws worldwide.

We’ve talked about plastic straws on the blog before and how they typically end up in landfills, making them something we all need to use less of. Hearing such a huge company like Starbucks giving them up brings hope to my heart.

The companies change of mind seems to have been started by a plastic straw ban in Seattle, their headquarters, earlier this year. Some stores have already started using adult sippy-cup-style lids in favor of straws. Plastic straws have become less and less eco-friendly as they’re hard to recycle and the ones that do make it into the recycling bins end up being sorted out because of size and weight.

Plastic straws take an average of 200 years to break down on this planet. Ending up in our landfills and most importantly our seas, harming sea life. This news made me think about what we can all do to use less plastic. A total overhaul can feel heavy, but small little changes are the key to making them last. Look for an easy change, maybe that’s bringing your own silverware with you or a glass/steel straw for all your iced beverages.

Lets make a small change together and see how big an impact we can make.

America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful

Summer is a beautiful thing isn’t it?! Everyone is in a great mood, tan and gathering anywhere there is a grill and a cooler. The energy feels exciting and possibility is everywhere.

As the biggest summer holiday is right around the corner, the 4TH of JULY! My favorite trip for this time of year involves lakes and long days up north. I really feel like the midwest does a great job at summer because the rest of the year the weather is usually terrible. Summer is a time to shine and I love to plan my holiday with a few extras to make the holiday feel special and effortless.

I’m a visual person and I love making mood boards so here is a mood board with all my favorite images for this time of the year. This is about creating a feeling and vibe that doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s about making your experiences feel right for you.

Enjoy the eye candy and I wish you and yours a very happy holiday.

P.S. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
