Goals vs. Dreams

Goals vs. Dreams

Happy New Year! (cue the confetti) I hope everyone had a sensational New Year and relaxing holiday with family and friends, we did! I know right now there is a lot of talk about resolutions and all that, but I wanted to bring up a new idea that I heard recently and decided to take to heart.

This is a resolution for your resolutions. Instead of thinking about them as goals, because that word gets thrown around so much and goals seem like these hard to attain tasks we add on to-do lists that never get done. What if we changed the thinking around goals to dreaming instead?

Doesn't that just sound so magical. As we become adults it seems the world tells us to stop dreaming, get your head out of the clouds and get “realistic.” It’s sad. We should never stop dreaming and we should all start dreaming big this year. 2018 is the year where we dream big and make things happen.

If you haven’t already, get out your phone, or a pen and piece of piece. Start writing down everything you have ever wanted to accomplish. Stop editing it because it’s too wild or not possible. Write it all down, get all the ideas out. Then tackle the ones that make you feel the most excited/scared.

Forget about goal-setting and lets create the lives of our dreams, literally. Here’s to a magical year ahead.

Thank You 2017

Thank You 2017

As much as I love planning for the new year I love taking a moment to reflect on the one that has passed, and what a year it has been! So much has happened this year and I find it so important to take a look back and truly take in all the memories before moving on to 2018.

On the personal side we moved house and are now quite settled in our new home. It took quite some time getting it to our exact liking but the process was fun and I really enjoyed throwing myself into the interior design world again.

On the business side we launched TWO new collection to the Stephanie Kantis jewelry family. Our first ever fine collection and a one-of-a-kind collection called Couture. I have been putting so much time and love int o these tow collections and it was such a joy to see them come to life. The fine collection is more wearable everyday pieces, while the Couture collection is just jaw-dropping show-stopping pieces. Both collections make me so proud.

On a philanthropic note i have put into motion a project that has been near and dear to my heart for years, the environment. I started a charity to help save and protect the environment. I will be sharing more about that here on the blog in the new year, so stay tuned.

I also want to say thank you to you, my friends and clients for supporting me this year and all the years past. It is truly a joy every year to do something that means so much to me and gives me so much pride.

I wish you a very Happy New Year!

In the Holiday Mood(Board)

In the Holiday Mood(Board)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I am sure you are feeling all the cozy wintery holiday feelings and with the seasons being only a month long, there is no time like the present (pun intended) to get started.

We spent this past weekend getting the house all ready for the season. We started pulling out all the decorations and also finding a few new ones. As you know my design aesthetic tends to go towards more minimal than over-the-top and I love finding just the right touches.

It’s impossible this time of the year to not get excited because everywhere I look there are glorious light displays, fresh greenery, and vibrant colors that signal the holidays are here.

I have created a seasonal mood board that showcases everything I love about the holidays and hopefully will give you a bit of inspiration if you are in need.

Tiny Baubles

Tiny Baubles

It’s been a little while since I've updated you guys about the new FINE collection and I have to tell you, the reaction I've been getting is amazing. It really makes me happy when I hear how much you're loving the collection.

I put a lot of thought and energy into creating something that feels like the Stephanie Kantis brand but in a whole new light. This collection is so truly wearable for everyday which is exactly what I wanted to do.

I also really wanted to give you lots of options of gold finishes so you can truly find the piece that speaks to you and your taste. I also made the collection easy to mix. I love to collect pieces and building upon my style and this is easy to do with the fine collection.

I wanted to share with you some of the pieces I’m loving right now and also pieces I believe are easy to gift. Let me know what you think and don’t forget to enjoy the little things in life.

Plastic Ocean

Plastic Ocean

It's time again for a little lesson on some environmental issues that are close to my heart. As I mentioned a few weeks back I really want to use this blog as a platform to talk more openly about what is important to me.

This week I want to talk about one-time use plastic forks, spoons and knives. I have talked to a lot of people that think plastic cutlery is recyclable and it’s not a problem but it is because not everyone recycling them. Here are some shocking statistics

-Food and beverage packaging make up 67 percent of all littler on the streets

-Plastic utensils rank among the top 10 most common trash items

-The ocean contains more than 8 million tons of plastic

Even the idea of making better utensils like biodegradable options made from potato starch aren’t gonna to solve this issue because they cost twice as much and require a lot of water and energy to produce.

The one way to truly make a difference is to use real forks and knives. China started a BYOC campaign (Bring Your Own Chopsticks) and have seen a lot of improvements. We need to encourage everyone to bring their own utensils and eat at home more. Also let restaurants know when you don’t need plastic utensils so they don’t go to waste.

It won’t take much, we just need everyone on board and thinking about how to lessen the plastic waste our planet has.

Till Next Week,

That’s a Scary Thought

That’s a Scary Thought

With Halloween right around the corner, you know what that means…gift giving season is here. I have always believed that November is the perfect time to get ahead of your holiday shopping list. By the time December rolls around the stress is on and we feel overwhelmed with holiday parties, decorating, cookie baking and all the other fun stuff we love doing.

Now is the best time to check off your favorites ladies on your list with a gift that has a lot of thought behind it.

I get the question every year around this time, what’s the perfect piece of jewelry for my mom, sister, daughter, aunt, best friend, etc. So, I decided to get ahead of it this year and I put together a little list of the best pieces of jewelry to buy that will work for everyone!

These pieces are literally the pieces I make every year that never fail me or my clients in impressing loved ones. There are a few pieces in every category, so start browsing and get ahead of the holiday stress with some fun early-bird shopping.

Swiss Family Vacation

Swiss Family Vacation

October turned out to be such a beautiful time to be in Europe. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a family vacation but my mother had already planned a river boat cruise from Amsterdam down through Germany and I was scheduled for a fine jewelry conference in Vicenza, Italy.  When we were finished with our respective trips I decided to meet them both in Zürich and toured the city for a few days.

My mom's husband, Gordon, headed back home to the states, and my mom and I continued to several cities in Switzerland before ending our trip with a three day shopping spree in Milan. It was such a great trip and I wanted to share a few images with you guys.

We started in Zurich, which is a Swiss German speaking city. This is me and mom enjoying the scenery and talking about how fascinating with all it’s multi-languages Switzerland is.

Red flowers and multi colored buildings with shutters are so typical of northern Switzerland and this was a shot of my favorites. Also, we couldn’t resist inducing in some of the best chocolate in the world- Laderach Swiss chocolate, yum!

Next on our tour was Lucerne Switzerland. It’s still considered central Switzerland and is Swiss German speaking. We loved the old wood bridge internationally known. I am sure you can recognize it from a movie or two. Also, everywhere we looked there were fountains and flowers.

We got brave one day and climbed the big medieval tower walls. To our surprise on the other side were these fabulous long haired cows! We couldn’t stop taking pictures of them!

Next stop, we headed to the western side of Switzerland. These are the French speaking cities along the northern part of Lake Geneva. I found a beautiful spot to take a picture.

We then took a train with the most amazing views and had a beautiful lunch and a glass of wine on Lake Geneva.  On the way to Lausanne we witnessed many beautiful chateaus and villages dreamily wiz by.

We made it to Bongiorno. Here we are in the Italian speaking section! This is the southernmost lake in Switzerland and the city of Lugano. Mountains are all around the beautiful lake and this was the view from our hotel terrace and a shot of a fabulous Italian villa.

Just look at this view from Mount Bre. We had a fabulous lunch and spent the afternoon enjoying nature’s bounty. How perfect did my earrings match Lugano. The sodalite stone was perfect with the lake blue water. So much inspiration and I can’t wait to go back.

One Small Step

One Small Step

A few weeks back I told you about my new intentions to bring more awareness to a cause that’s close to my heart, the environment, and today I want to share some facts.

When we’re armed with knowledge we can make decisions from a place of truth and knowing. There is always a lot of information circling about what’s good for the environment and what’s bad.

There is one small step we can all take that can make a huge difference for this planet we share, and that’s getting rid of plastic straws. I’m sure you’re aware of the insane amount of plastic we humans use every year. But let’s just start off with one-time use straws.

straws

You have been using plastic straws your whole life I bet. They come with our juice packs at school, and you get them in your water at every restaurant meal. Let’s do some math here. If there are 7 billion people on the planet and let’s say 3 billion use straws, and those 3 billion use 2 straws a day, that’s…6 billion straws in one day.

Now we don’t know if that number is true but we do know that one of the world’s biggest chain restaurants uses 60 million straws a day. That’s a lot of plastic garbage.

A few more facts to think about:

 -They can’t be recycled

-Most people use them once and throw them away

-They contain BPA, a harmful chemical

-It’s harmful to the environment to make straws, and the process uses fossil fuels

-Plastic straws are one of the top ten things found on our beaches

Make a change today. Make a choice to not use plastic straws and/or buy metal straws to use over and over.

 Til Next week,

They're Here!

They're Here!

I always look forward to this time of year, because it feels like a brand new start. The Fall Collection unveiling gets me so excited because it’s time for some newness. Can’t you feel the energy?!

I mentioned in a previous blog all about my inspiration for this collection, go back and read it HERE. But I didn’t get to show you the actual pieces. That’s what I’m going to do today.

There are so many pieces and it truly is hard to pick, but for you I’m going to share my favorite pieces. I have put together a few little groups of my favorite earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets to make it easy.

This collection is truly one of the most wearable for mix and matching. All the pieces can layer well and some of my favorite combos are: big earrings + chunky bracelets (at least three) or layered necklaces (one close to the neck and one longer) + a big ring.

Take a look and let me know your favorites, I am sure there will be more than one.

Fashion Week with Christian!

Fashion Week with Christian!

This past week was New York Fashion Week and I got to (once again) work with one of my favorite humans, Christian Siriano. Christian and I have been friends for a while now and when he asked me to help with his Spring '18 collection, I jumped at the chance.

There is so much creativity that happens during these collaborations because the energy that Christian gives off is magnetic and I want to match it. I have included images of the pieces straight from the runway here. Let me know your favorites! I was in love with the ear pieces, so beautiful!

Also it's very exciting for me to announce that we're launching a capsule collection together this Spring. I will have more information coming later in the year so stay tuned.

Christian and I were jokingly calling the collection "Crazy Flowers" because of the scale and boldness of the pieces but we will also be creating smaller more wearable pieces for everyday. You will be able to layer and mix-n- match, so the styling ideas are endless.

I still have to pinch myself sometimes because this job feels like a dream. Another fashion week in the books!
